Zakyra Hammil - Topic Group presentation Essay
Hi, my name is Zakyra Hammil.
This Blogg will be about our second presentation about climate change, gender inequality and infrastructure throughout our class.
Group 3 - Climate Change
The first group presented first was (my group) Group 3 on Climate Change. When presenting, our group started off by explaining what climate change is, what causes it, how it effects, technology around it, and solutions to resolve climate change as well as organizations that step up to reduce it.
It informed us that it is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place which is largely caused by human activity. We also informed the class that climate change has been around for centuries and us humans have been affecting nature surrounding us for a long time as well. We presented useful information, which was the main causes of climate change, which showed that humans have contributed to the speeding of climate change throughout the years. The contributions were the burning of fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and global warming. Our groups also provided videos of the graphic consequences of our doing to climate change.
We also asked for a person to interview, A few of us showed up in Microsoft team to the interview and our group leader asked the important person who works in companies about the care of climate change. We talked about two important issues which were the effects and climate change, some factors were that hurricanes are becoming stronger with higher wind speeds and for storms to intensify at a quicker pace and the technology used for climate change which we were clear that the technological advances against climate change are mainly focused on trapping greenhouse gases and reducing warming. I think that our group did a great job of providing information on this topic.
Group 2 - Gender Inequality
The next group that presented was group 3 on Gender Inequality. The group started speaking about the history of the LGBTQ History and the Worst Mass shooting Case. There were two cases. The first case study was, Cop of the month allegedly harassed transgender woman during traffic stop, and A man named Brain stone who was fired for his sexual orientation. They spoke about the rate of suicide attempts on transgender youth in 2020, and how to prevent it. Moving on for this topic, Group 3 spoke about why immigrants lack legal protection? The group provided us with a pie chart on the population of immigrants in the US.
When finish of that topic this group moved on to How the legal protection toward discrimination improved. Personally, I feel as there was very little improvement, but that’s just my opinion. Black Lives Matter was also spoken about, I was a movement that changed live for people and opened so many eyes to what the black community suffers to this day. The next topic is about Gender inequality in education. The topic spoke about the Sex differences in education and Gender discrimination the group showed a video on closing the Gender Gap. We learn about the education of Gender Gap; Where worldwide, women are more educated today than they have ever been, but we are still not as educated as men. The topic was also provided with a video.
The last issue that was exposed was sexual harassment, they explained that sexual harassment is a type of harassment involving the use of explicit or implicit sexual overtones. It includes the unwelcome and inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. Sexual harassment includes a range of actions from verbal wrongdoings to sexual abuse or assault. Harassment can occur in many different social settings such as the workplace, the home, school, and churches. Harassers or victims may be of any sex or gender and how we can prevent it. I think that this team did a great job of looking for information.
Group 3 – Infrastructure
The last group that presented was group 1 on Infrastructure. They explained about the technology department explaining that they would include the technologies bill such as it will improve, and it will expand the nation's broadband services. Infrastructure Bill Budget Distribution was the first topic. Budget cutdown was explained also with Technology, Construction, and Transportation. The factors contain issues that need to be fixed. When it comes to technology, cyber-attacks are a big issue. Experts estimate that a ransomware attack will occur every eleven seconds in 2021, disrupting normal operations and damaging important It assets and infrastructure that can be impossible to recover without the budget or resources to do so.
The transportation issue is when it comes to electric cars. There are not many charging stations across the country and the ones available are only exclusive to Tesla vehicles, making it difficult for people to own electric vehicles. This issue will be solved thanks to the infrastructure bill, which will provide nationwide EV stations. Construction has issues that need to be fixed. When building new roads or bridges, it can cause more traffic in other areas, leading to more accidents. Construction also negatively impacts the U.S by releasing pollutants into the air.
Overall, I would like to say that every group did a really good job on presenting. I Think we all learned something new to think about when viewing each presentation.
