Zakyra Hammil 1,000 Word Essay

Hi, this is Zakyra Hammil and this blog will be about my experience in presenting and watching these three groups on power PowerPoints about Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication Culture, Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups, and Chapter 10: Group Leadership & Problem Solving

I would just like to say everyone did an amazing job with their presentations. Each chapter and all had a great insight into the real world rather than just what was in the book. Group 1 had chapter three; this chapter was about intercultural communication. The group followed along with the learning objectives of the chapter such as what culture is and how the role of communication is important. They made sure to explain the different cultures based on their dominance.

They used videos and picturesand graphs to demonstrate an understanding of these concepts as well. They also made sure to input a real-world perspectivein just the U.S. Though our country has a mass of different groups of culture and race. They disclose on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sex, disability and much more that I can even think of. It is important to discuss a variety of aspects of each of these topics.

It is usually difficult to speak about these kinds of topics because it can lead to arguments, but the group made sure to note that it's important to consider just how diverse people can be. Even through the 20 first centry, people of all cultures continue to suffer from discrimination because they are considered different. Everyone is different, itheir own ways, we should do our research on making the world a better place. Therefore, the presentation was well organized

Going on to the next presentation, which was conducted by Group 2, which was on chapter 9. This chapter consisted of communicating in groups. The group's presentation did a great job in defining the different types of groups, emphasizing what healthy groups look like, development of groups and how to manage group conflict. They started off with the different groups people tend to be a part of. The most basic one being families. Other groups can be social, support, service, interest, work, and even virtual groups. didn't even think that there were so many categories of groups that can even potentially be a part of.

The next presentation was done by group 2 on chapter 9. This chapter was about Communicating in Groups. The group also did a great job presenting their PowerPointThe group did great in defining the different types of groups, emphasizing what healthy groups look like, development of groups and how to manage group conflict. Group 2 started off with the different groups of people tending to be a part of, most basically one, being families. Other groups can be social, support, service, interest, work, and even virtual groups. These groups can all have different benefits both individualistically and collectively.

A family can generate a sense of home through communication, group identity, history, and future. Families can be described, for most, as their main type of group. We manly go to our families for emotional support, which is why the relationship we have with our families, whether it's good or bad, determines our quality of life. A theory used by scholars that study families state how families typically function using one of four patterns. In other types of groups social groups, support groups, and interest groups. These types of groups mainly focus on the well-being of others within the group, and they may share common interests and hobbies. Service groups and workgroups and teams generally work together for a result that can benefit others or those within the group.  Other group conflicts include Issue related group conflict, in which the group's goals, ideas, or opinions are incompatible.

The presentation ended with how conflicts in groups will always happen and could happen for a variety of reasons. Yet there are ways to manage and overcome these conflicts. The group used videos to explain all these concepts as well as charts and overall was an insightful presentation.

The last presentation was done by Group 3. This was and is the group that I was part of. Our topic was chapter 10 on group leadership and problem solving. We had the idea that our project would have a light theme from the show, "The Office". I think our group members did a great job presenting their slides of the PowerPoint presentation. I believe my group members did a wonderful job with the information they gave. The information they gave was very detailed. Some of our group members showed videos that further explained the concept of chapter 10.

We worked well together for our first presentation, and I am glad that these are my group members. I think I did good presenting my own slide instead of the entire PowerPoint. I stutter, which runs in my family. I ‘ve been to therapy for it so it's not perfectI'm glad I was able to present my portion. I may have messed up a little while talking because I was nervous. But I think taking this class may also help me with speaking in front of a class. I think for our first project this was a good start as wellThe communication was a little off with some of our group members but it's just the beginning of many more group projectsSo hopefully we’ll get the hang of it.
