Hello my name is Nicholas Enrique Perez and my paper will be on information, notes, and skills I learned from the following presentations given by my peers. Everyone was very presentable and each individual gave great insight to their portion of the chapters. You don't find people usually working together this nicely. These are the chapters that we are covering in this blog: Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication Culture, Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups, and Chapter 10: Group Leadership & Problem Solving. Each group had to digest the material and relay the information to the rest of the class in a way were we could retain the information. (You don’t realize how hard it is to teach until the student becomes the teacher)

Group 1 began the presentations with an excellent opening on intercultural communication. They continued with informing us the definition of what culture is and how much impact it has on the way people communicate and react. They showed how men and women’s role differentiate throughout communities solely based on culture and environment. Group 1 then proceeded using visual stimulants such as images and descriptive videos of family scenarios to help the class further understand intercultural communication. The group used beliefs and ideology to better distinguish the differences in gender, sex, religion and further differences.

They went on explaining racism and how our color depicts messages in different culturally different environments. Group 1’s approach to this chapter was executed very well and their organized, informative approach proved this presentation to be a success.

The next presenters up were Group 2 which presented Chapter 9. This chapter stressed the importance of communication between small work group or as large as whole communities. They further went into detail to the many types of groups that could be measured. They showed how to resolve any conflict that may arise and the potential red flags and how to evade them.

Group 2 also showed how a group needs to have a like minded mindset and have a shared goal. With their differences they can embrace different approaches to the same issue. This is called collective intelligence, and it is what drives projects and movements to be successful with their messaging or mission. It’s what drove “Black Lives Matter” to a higher level of consciousness. A place where white, black, latino, and other minorities can come together regardless of culture and community for a better purpose. It’s honestly a beautiful thing when this happens in life, and it happens more often than you think. Look at Apple, a successful business with one focus. Yes, people goals are different, money, fame, status, ego.. But when it is all put aside the leaders plans for the company follow through and even better with a workforce with one mission. Before the group finished they explained the stages a specific group goes through to develop into the final masterpiece; storming, forming, norming, performing, adjourning and transforming. The group had a great use of videos clips and photos to sum their ideas and give good examples towards their presentation.

Finally the best for last, Group 3. Although there were complications on my side I was not able to take to the scene with my group because of existing circumstances, but they did not do bad to say the least. This topic was surrounding chapter 10. Group leadership and problem solving, I did a separate presentation basing these roles compared to my work life. I used everyday problems during my day job for a promotional marketing company called Hitex Marketing. I explained production line and the pipeline and methods I use to secure a proper team for each project. How we organize, and communicate in order to be the most efficient while we are working. If anyone needed extra help that I be open and willing as a team leader.  Starting with group meetings with the graphic artists, onto working with product managers, CSR’s and manufacturers. Very hectic air takes lots of level heads and organization to execute the pipeline properly throughout the project. Always being open to ideas and letting everyone have the time and light of day to speak creatively and constructively. I closed my presentation with BOB. Which stands for Book of Business and projects I’ve created and once presented to CEO’s across the USA.

Overall I really enjoyed building this presentation because I was able to compare it to real life scenarios and I believe gave my classmates insight into what to expect when applying these chapters and this class into everyday life. It was enjoyable to put this together, I realized I may need to practice using powerpoint in order to present more fluidly and professionally. After meetings with clients or as a leader I look back and see where I could have communicated better, where I could have helped where it was needed and without hesitation or any one of my colleagues have to speak up. A lot of communicating can be done by understanding peoples social cues and reading a persons “vibe”. There is definitely psychology in business and every interaction we have with humans. This presentation was internally informing for me and gives me further confidence in presenting in front of my team, classmate, or CEO’s.

Thank you,

Nick P
